Design: Introduction

The traditional Thai house is elegant and functional, making use of natural materials whenever possible, and their structure and building styles take into account environmental factors and the weather, as well as the way of life of its local population that expresses the meaning of life, beliefs, hopes, family and the understanding of the diversity of the cultures. Moreover, the house has simply shown its attitude based on ‘Thai architectural wisdom’ which reflected the design and form of architecture, not only through the sense of place, time, and seasons but also individually identical groups of ethnic and the influences of architectural designs from the neighboring countries. All of which has led to a diverse and distinctive design ornament, patterns, and textures of the house. The Thai architecture design ornaments are Pan-lom, kalae, brali, and gable wall designs which can be easily recognized in Northern, North- Eastern, Central, and Southern Thailand, where the designs are influenced from the neighboring countries in Cambodia, Southern Laos, and Indonesia.
